Frequently Asked Questions

Acupuncture FAQs

  • Acupuncture is a key part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that involves inserting thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body to promote healing, reduce pain, and restore balance. It works by stimulating the nervous system, improving circulation, and encouraging the body’s natural healing processes.

  • Acupuncture is commonly used to treat stress, anxiety, headaches, sleep issues, chronic pain, digestive disorders, pain, and women’s health concerns. It can also support overall wellness and preventative care.

  • Most people experience little to no pain. You may feel a slight pinch or tingling sensation when the needles are inserted, but many clients find it relaxing.

  • The number of sessions varies based on your condition. Acute issues may improve in a few treatments, while chronic concerns often require regular sessions over time. A customized treatment plan will be discussed at your first appointment.

  • Your first visit includes a consultation to discuss your health concerns and goals, followed by an acupuncture session tailored to your needs. The first session lasts 75 minutes.

    • Before: Eat a light meal and wear loose clothing. Avoid caffeine right before your session.

    • After: Stay hydrated, take it easy, and avoid strenuous activity for a few hours.

    • Initial appointment: 75 minutes (includes consultation and treatment)

    • Follow-up treatments: 30–60 minutes

Cosmetic Acupuncture FAQs

  • I offer 4 different cosmetic services: facial rejuvenation, facial cupping and gua sha, nanoneedling, and microneedling.

  • At your New Client sessions we will discuss which service is correct for you.

    • Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is great for long-term anti-aging and skin health.

    • Facial Cupping & Gua Sha are ideal for reducing puffiness, sculpting the face, and enhancing circulation.

    • Microneedling is perfect for improving skin texture, reducing scars, and addressing deep wrinkles.

    • Nanoneedling is best for hydration, a quick glow, and enhancing the absorption of serums.

  • Facial rejuvenation acupuncture is a natural, non-invasive treatment that uses fine acupuncture needles to stimulate collagen production, improve circulation, and enhance skin elasticity. It helps soften fine lines, reduce puffiness, and promote a healthy glow while also addressing internal health imbalances

  • Results vary, but most clients see noticeable improvements after 5–7 sessions, with optimal results around 10–12 sessions. Maintenance treatments every 4–6 weeks help sustain long-term benefits.

    • Facial cupping involves using small, gentle suction cups to improve circulation, reduce puffiness, and enhance lymphatic drainage. It can help sculpt and lift the face naturally.

    • Facial gua sha uses a smooth stone tool to relieve tension, promote blood flow, and encourage a radiant complexion. This technique can also reduce sinus congestion and jaw tension.

    • Nanoneedling uses tiny silicone or stainless-steel tips to create microchannels in the skin, enhancing the absorption of serums without penetrating deep layers. It’s best for hydration, fine lines, and overall skin rejuvenation with no downtime.

    • Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries with fine needles to stimulate collagen and elastin production, improving skin texture, reducing acne scars, and softening fine lines. This treatment has minimal downtime and delivers more dramatic results than nanoneedling.

  • A numbing cream is applied before the procedure to minimize discomfort. Most clients feel a mild prickling or tingling sensation but find the treatment very tolerable.

  • Mild redness and sensitivity can last 24–48 hours, similar to a mild sunburn. It’s best to avoid direct sun exposure, swimming, sweating, makeup, and active skincare ingredients (like retinol) for a couple of days.

  • These treatments are ideal for those looking for a natural alternative to Botox or fillers and want to:

    • Prevent or reduce signs of aging

    • Improve skin tone and texture

    • Support overall skin health with a holistic approach

  • Cosmetic acupuncture, microneedling, and nanoneedling are not recommended for those who:

    • Have active acne breakouts, open wounds, or infections

    • Are pregnant

    • Have blood clotting disorders or take blood thinners

    • Have had Botox or fillers within the last 2 weeks

  • Each cosmetic service include body acupuncture, as well as LED light therpy, TOMA mask, and TOMA Skin Care Products.

    • LED Light Therapy: This therapy uses specific light wavelengths to stimulate collagen production, reduce inflammation, and promote healing. It helps improve skin tone, reduce redness, and enhance the effectiveness of your treatments.

    • TOMA Mask: This luxurious mask is designed to hydrate, brighten, and soothe your skin. It helps to calm inflammation, improve circulation, and deeply nourish the skin, enhancing the benefits of your facial treatments.

    • TOMA Skin Care Products: After your treatment, I apply bioadaptive botanical products that are tailored to your skin type and needs. These products support your skin's natural healing process and provide long-lasting hydration, anti-aging, and nourishing benefits.

  • Yes, absolutely! If you’re afraid of needles, I offer a non-acupuncture facial cupping and gua sha service that can still deliver great results for your skin and wellness:

    • Facial Cupping & Gua Sha: These techniques use gentle suction cups and a smooth stone tool to improve circulation, reduce puffiness, and enhance skin tone and texture. They are relaxing, non-invasive, and highly effective for lifting and sculpting the face.

Cupping and Additional Therapies FAQs

  • Cupping is a therapeutic technique that uses suction cups placed on the skin to promote circulation, relieve muscle tension, and support detoxification. It is commonly used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for pain relief and overall wellness. We use silicone and glass cups in our office.

  • Cupping helps reduce muscle tension, improve circulation, and promote detoxification. It’s commonly used for pain relief and relaxation.

  • Yes, cupping can leave temporary marks that look like bruises but are not painful. They usually fade within a few days to a week.

  • Most people find cupping to be relaxing. You may feel a pulling or stretching sensation, but it should not be painful. The level of suction can be adjusted for your comfort.

  • Cupping is often included in acupuncture sessions and typically lasts about 5-10 minutes depending on your needs. I also offer stand alone cupping sessions that are 30 minutes long.

  • Cupping is generally safe, but it may not be suitable if you:

    • Have bleeding disorders or take blood thinners

    • Have skin infections, wounds, or severe skin conditions

    • Are pregnant (certain areas should be avoided)

    • Have fragile or extremely sensitive skin

    • Have a sunburn

  • E-Stim, or electroacupuncture, is a technique that uses a mild electrical current applied to acupuncture needles. This enhances the therapeutic effects of acupuncture by stimulating the muscles and nerves more intensely than traditional acupuncture alone.

  • E-Stim can help with:

    • Pain relief (chronic and acute pain conditions)

    • Muscle tension and spasms

    • Nerve-related issues (such as sciatica or neuropathy)

    • Improving circulation and reducing inflammation

  • No, most people feel a mild pulsing or tingling sensation, but it should not be painful. The intensity is adjustable for your comfort.

  • While both use electrical stimulation, E-Stim is applied directly through acupuncture needles, allowing deeper muscle and nerve stimulation, whereas TENS therapy uses pads on the skin for more surface-level stimulation.

  • E-Stim is not recommended for individuals with pacemakers or electrical implants, a history of seizures, epilepsy, or those who are pregnant. If you have any medical concerns, please consult with me before treatment.

  • Yes! I have heat lamps with red light that are used during acupuncture sessions. During cosmetic sessions I use an LED Rainbow light to enhance healing, collagen production, and overall skin health.
